Our Story
My name is Bob Ross and I am the owner of a small kennel of fine dogs near Creighton, Missouri. I grew up nearby in the Grand River Bottoms of Henry County. Some folks say Stuttgart, Arkansas is the haven for duck hunters, but I never knew it. The area around the family farm was a great stopping point for tens of thousands of waterfowl during each spring and fall migration. I was raised during a time when quail could be found along every hedgerow, and coveys in most grain fields. I ran every kind of hunting dog you can imagine: retrievers, setters, pointers, terriers, and trail-dogs.
Stompin’ round the farm for so long even afforded me the chance to work some great stock-dogs. Some were good, quite a few great, and every now and then, an excellent dog beyond description would happen my way. I duck- and upland-hunted with fine labs and chased hard-charging Elhews. I followed beautiful English and Irish setters, mucked alongside walkers and blue ticks, and busted briers behind a beagle. In the midst of all this, I concluded I loved quail hunting with a versatile and well-mannered German shorthaired pointer best of all. It was with these dogs that I experienced the ultimate hunt. They have the nose and the chase of a hound; the stamina of an Elhew; the drive and treeing ability of a terrier; and the retrieve, loyalty, intelligence, and temperament of a Labrador. They’ll even move cattle if asked.
Someday, when I can no longer hunt, I will thank God and remember the great dogs who brought me joy and the thrill of the chase, and the talented dog handlers I shared these memories with. It is my hope that I can provide you with one great dog in your lifetime, your own German shorthaired pointer. Invest your time and they will prove again that canines really are our best friends.
Currently I have SFK Panzer der Feldmeister and SFK Billy the Kidd as my studs for most breedings, and I use other studs from the very best AKC German shorthaired pointer (GSP) breeders as needed. The studs I choose emulate the same qualities I look for in my own pointers. They must be comfortable in many situations: around children at home, guns in the field, or in the hectic atmospheres found at any AKC/NAVDA event. These dogs must have innate desire, yet remain composed, and they must have outstanding conformation. I take great pride in my dogs, and look for persons who are committed to raising these pups to their fullest potential, whether in the field, in competitive events, or as a family companion. If you are looking for a GSP with a well-rounded temperament and at ease in many environments, I’ll probably have the right pup for you.
